Making a Difference: Lifestyle Changes To Save The Planet

Living sustainably is a hot topic that is gaining more traction every year. From the food we eat, to the clothes we buy and cars we drive, everything we do has an effect on the environment. Fortunately, there are many things we can do to reduce our carbon footprint and leave more room for plants and animals to thrive.

Our environment is in crisis: carbon emissions, caused by our carbon footprint, get trapped in the atmosphere and due to the rising temperatures this creates, glaciers are melting and sea levels are rising. The symptoms of climate change are significant and far-reaching, and are expected to cause approximately 250,000 additional deaths per year between 2030 and 2050 from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhoea and heat stress. An effective step in reducing your carbon footprint is living sustainably

Baruvida strives to act intentionally to make a positive impact on the planet. We do this by  incorporating sustainable living practices both at work and at home, and by investing in regenerative agriculture. Baruvida is committed to a long-term partnership with 4EverForest with a goal of planting millions of trees over the coming years. If you aim to live more sustainably as well, which we wholeheartedly encourage you to do, here are a few simple ways to begin your journey towards an environmentally-conscious lifestyle!

Make conscious food choices

The food production industry accounts for a good amount of a household’s carbon footprint and roughly ¼ of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. One of the easiest ways to be more food-conscious is to switch to a more plant-based diet. While plant-based foods have a lower carbon footprint than meat production, some still use a good portion of resources to produce. Baruvida has a highly sustainable process for production - the process for growing and harvesting relies solely on rainwater, whereas other nuts (such as almonds & walnuts) require gallons of water to produce.

Conserve energy

One of the easiest ways to live sustainably is to be more conscious of your energy consumption. There are plenty of simple ways to preserve energy in your own home.Turning off lights and electronics when not in use, and making the switch to efficient appliances and smart devices to have greater control over your home's energy consumption is a great start. You can also take some of the strain off of your temperature control systems by dressing warmly and using blankets in the cold season, or opening your windows in the warmer months. Lastly, you can reduce the amount of water consumption and energy used in the laundry room by taking care of your clothing, limiting the amount of wash loads you do, hanging clothes to dry, and using cold water instead of hot.

Drive less, walk more

Vehicle transportation has always been and will continue to be one of the most significant contributors to atmospheric pollution. Walking or opting for public transportation is a great way to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emissions, and is an excellent investment in your own health!

Say ‘so-long’ to single-use products

Single-use products such as plastic straws and water bottles, contribute to the buildup of litter in the ocean. Ocean litter can not only harm the underwater environment but also damage the aquatic ecosystem. An easy way to prevent environmental deterioration is to replace single-use products with reusable alternatives. Nowadays, nearly every single-use product has a sustainable alternative that you can get your hands on!

Purchase products with a low carbon footprint

At Baruvida, reducing our carbon and water footprint is extremely important to ensure we produce the most sustainable plant-based food options, and this is something we take great pride in. Unfortunately, not all industries exercise the same care. Fresh water consumption is unthinkably high in the production of clothing materials; it can take up to 200 tons of water to produce just one ton of dyed fabric, and up to 20,000 liters of water to produce 1kg of cotton, making it imperative to buy eco-friendly clothing options as part of a sustainable lifestyle. When purchasing products, make sure that they have a sustainability component - do your research beforehand and align yourself with a company that truly cares about the environment and regenerative agriculture.

The impact each individual has on the environment is substantial. At Baruvida, we genuinely encourage everyone to make positive change in our world by investing in a sustainable lifestyle. Even the smallest changes make a difference - do your part and we promise to keep doing ours.
